Steampunk style has been the inspiration for countless works of art, all kinds of imaginative outfits, and the most curious of contraptions; steampunk tattoos are no exception. They can range from a single cog tattooed around a finger to an all out landscape of clockworks and steam-power across an entire back. There are so many amazing pieces out there, but here are 15 of the some of the most awesome steampunk tattoos.
A lot of steampunk style tattoos include some biomechanical aspect and this one does so in a removed panel kind of way. The rivets around the edges are a nice addition and I find that the 3D aspect at the bottom of the panel adds a touch of realism to the whole design.
This bionic full sleeve is wickedly dark and detailed. The artist used amazing shadows and highlights to give this piece a metallic look and in some places Content Here even a rusted appearance. I dont know, but if I think I saw this up against a fully functional brass and piston-fitted bionic arm, the tattoo would win.
This tattoo is probably my favourite in this entire list, or of any that that Ive ever seen, for that matter. It has such a stunning Victorian elegance in the swirling around the tear duct and on the iris. The screws seem to be placed in very clever spots to make the eye look incredibly natural yet perfectly mechanical. Even the eyelid has somewhat metal-worked appearance to it.
Another biomechanical bit of awesome. This one is presented under the look of torn away flesh. These under the skin gears and pistons tattoos seem to be fairly popular but I just cant get tired of looking at them. Personally though, it would probably give me a bit of a start every time I glanced down at my arm.
I look at this one and I keep waiting for the gears to start turning and the wings to creak into motion. The shading inside the heart makes me really feel like Im looking into a cut-out on her back. Maybe this is what steampunk angels are made of?
This tattoo is a nice combination of feminine swirls and clunky clockworks. I very much like that the hour hand has a bit of a twisted look to it. This is only of the few really girly steampunk tattoos Ive seen.
An Abraham Lincoln cyborg. Awesome! What really sold me on this was the fact that the only colour in the whole tattoo is that ominous red eye. And then, of course, I thought immediately of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
An unfinished, yet potentially stunning, mechanical wing. Each feather is fitted with a tiny screw which makes for the perfect little detail. The feathers themselves also have a metallic kind of look to them.
Ive seen a few clockwork beetles and this one was one of my favourites. The clockwork innards are wonderfully detailed and the perfect shading makes this one very life-like. I also just really liked the little wind-up knob on the bottom.
Rib bones *and* spare parts make this one of the coolest steampunk tattoos Ive seen. The appearance of the stretched and ripped pieces of flesh gives this one a fantastic sense of deterioration and broken down automatons. I find that the incredibly well done biomechanical tattoos make a startlingly dramatic impression.
This owl is covered in pipes, valves, gears, and rivets and the detail is wonderful. I love the clean lines and the big empty steampunk goggle eyes. Makes you kind of want a real clockwork owl as a pet. Or maybe thats just me.
This tattoo isnt overly steampunk but I really liked the whimsical feel given to this pocket watch. It offers a suggestion of fantasy and, really, when coupled with the concept of time and some well placed clock parts, you can get a pretty steamy result.
Im always a fan of the ripped skin look with machinery underneath. Same concept as most biomechanical steampunk tattoos but this one has clunkier gears and more exaggerated tears than most Ive seen.
A little cracked and broken, this heart tattoo has been given a steam-powered repair job with some brass fittings, a rivet here and there, and a new set of clockwork inner workings. Maybe steam-powered hearts are tougher?
An amazing steampunk clock design inspired by clock maker Eric Freitas. This tattoo has such a dark, post apocalypse aura with its rusted appearance and twisted hour hour hands. The artist makes amazing use of the colours and shading to give this piece a really antiquated look.
