The heart locket design can be a very beautiful way to express yourself. Whether you are trying to say that your heart is off limits, or that you are waiting for the right person to come unlock your heart and release all of the love that it holds. This tattoo design is most commonly done as a standard heart, with a key hole, shaded with a dark red.

Even though a standard red heart with a key hole is the most common design, you should also consider one that has an antique look and may resemble something your grandmother use to wear. A hummingbird around the key hole is also another popular one. Floral designs, and all black hearts are other less common ones that you may be interested in. If you are looking for something original or less traditional you may also try adding wings to the locket, or having the key alongside the locket.

Great placing for a heart locket tattoos is what makes your tattoo complete. A popular placement for this design is a simple chain around the ankle and the locket resting on the top of your foot. You could also use the same concept but on your wrist. With either of those placements you could add a lot of detail in the chain to make the tattoo pop even more. You may also consider putting the heart locket around your neck, or on your chest where your heart is.

Some other things to keep in mind are the size of the heart, the placement of the key, and the amount of keys. Some people chose to have more than one key.
