Bear tattoos are generally popular amongst men and have a huge symbolic history dating back to Ancient Greece. In ancient Greece the Great She-Bear was found in the constellation Ursa Major and believed to be the incarnation of the Goddess Artemis. However in the Old Testament the bear symbolised cruelty and evil influence and was used to represent the King of Persia, who brought death to his people.
In Europe the bear was a symbol of warfare for the Celts and became the national symbol of Russia. However, it was in Native American tribes that the bear had the greatest influence.
