Party Games and Entertainment
For certain themed parties, the entertainment may be obvious. For a casino theme, have casino games like poker, black jack and roulette. If you have a horror movie theme, play his favorite horror movie and have everyone come in a mask or dressed as a classic horror movie villain. Karaoke parties can be fun, especially if you have a collection of her favorite songs or music from the decade she was born.
Playing games can bring out some of the funniest moments at birthday parties. Play games such as trivia, using either the decade of his birth or who knows him the best. If it's not a surprise party, you can have him help compile a list of things such as his favorite foods, movies, drinks, teams, year, memory, and so on, and then you can make a trivia game out of it. Even for a surprise party, he can play along by writing out his answers as you read the question. Whoever knows him best wins a prize.
You can also play a game called "Have you ever..." At the beginning of the party, have everyone write out about three to five interesting that they have done or had happen to them. Examples include streaking, parachuting, snorkeling, kissing a frog, falling in mud or anything else they want to admit to, even if it's something common. Someone can stand in the middle of the room (everyone else should have a chair or a seat) and read one of the papers. Everyone who has done or experienced that particular thing will have to stand up and switch seats. Whoever doesn't get a seat must read the next paper. This can be a great ice breaker for a large group when everyone isn't familiar with each other. Even if all of the guests know each other, it can be interesting to find out who has experienced what.
