Hit your 40-year-old friend or family member's funny bone with hilarious birthday gag gifts, humorous parties or surprise guests that will guarantee entertainment and laughter.

  1. Hire a Surprise Guest

    • What's funnier than a giant gorilla serenading you on your 40th birthday? Hire the funniest singing telegram person you can find to surprise the birthday honoree at the office or at a party.

Book your telegram far in advance. Be sure the birthday boy or girl has no idea the telegram is coming, but stop by the office so you can witness the show. Be sure you clear the telegram with the boss before signing a contract.

Another funny guest to hire is a comic drag queen to visit your friend turning 40. As with the singing telegram, check with the boss first. Many of these comedians will ask you for juicy information about the birthday boy or girl to include in the routine, which will send co-workers into gales of laughter.

    Purchase the Perfect Gag Gift

    • Although its been done before, there's nothing like adult diapers and wrinkle cream to make any new 40 year old laugh. Assemble an over the hill survival kit with plenty of items meant for the elderly including joint medicine, hemorrhoid cream, hot flash medicine and corn removers. You could even throw in a walker or a cane for added effect.
Present your 40-year-old pal with an "Old Fart of the Year" award certificate. Be sure to frame this gem so your friend can proudly display it at home.

Other gag gift ideas include creating a special AARP magazine cover featuring the birthday honoree, an over-the-hill bib and a dry erase board with "Bucket List" written on the top with permanent ink.

    Throw a Funny Party

    • What cracks up your 40-year-old friend or family member the most? If it's whoopee cushions and immature gags, base your party around the infantile to create a hilarious situation for both the birthday honoree and the guests. Serve drinks in baby bottles and be sure you place those important whoopee cushions on every chair. Ask your guests to wear annoying T-shirts such as "I'm with Stupid" and even invite a stand-up comedian to entertain your guests.

If childish pranks aren't in the cards, throw a 40th birthday party where the men come dressed as women and the women dressed as men. There's something about a man in heels that can make even the most stoic party guest giggle.
