Bizarre and Creative Designs BizarBin

Imagine this : perhaps the most important street photographer of the twentieth century was a nanny who kept everything to herself. Nobody had ever seen her work and she was a complete unknown until the time of her death. For decades Vivians work hid in the shadows until decades later (in 2007), historical hobbyist John Maloof bought a box full of never developed negatives at a local auction for $380.

street-photography-001

John began to develop the negatives and it didnt take long before he realised that these were no ordinary street snapshots from the 50s and 60s these pictures were a lot more then that. Maiers work is particularly evocative for those who grew up in the 50s and 60s because she seemed to stare deep into the soul of the time and preserve the everyday experience of the people. She ventured outside the comfortable homes and picturesque residential neighborhoods of her employers to document all segments of life in and around the big city. Below weve rounded up some of our favorites.

He embarked on a journey to find the legend who took these beautiful pictures and he quickly discovered her name: Vivian Maier.

self portrait vivian maier

Here is a self-portrait of Vivian Maier

Before he could find her, John discovered  her obituary in the newspaper of 2009 . She slipped on ice, suffered a head injury and never fully recovered. She was 83 years old when she passed away.

Since then, the work of this mysterious and incredibly talented woman has turned the art world upside down. The pictures gained international media attention with exhibitions in London, New York , Los Angeles , Oslo and Hamburg.

John has also made a documentary about Vivian and her work   you can check out the trailer below.

WOW, what an incredible story and what an inspiration!

If youd like to see even more of this amazing photographer then be sure to check out her official site, where you can also found some of her color work.

This edible Optimus Prime is made of 700-800 individual pieces of gingerbread. And it doesnt just look impressiveit also won its maker, artist Caroline Eriksson, a huge cash prize.

redditor downvotedagain posted Erikssons sweet Transformer, explaining the 3D and compositing artist is a friend of a friend and that she was entering Optimus Primewhich took a week and a half of full-time work to buildin a gingerbread contest. Later, he posted that she took home the 40,000 NOK (roughly $6,500 USD) grand prize. You can watch her post-victory television appearance, alongside her towering gingerbread sculpture. Ok, this made me hungry, but would you dare to eat this?!

You know Mario. Everyone knows Mario, but did you also know that the iconic Nintendo Mascot was once known by another name?

Ossan was the original name of Nintendos famous mascot during the early days of the Famicom, the Japanese equivalent to the Nintendo Entertainment System. The nickname Ossan means middle-aged guy, the internal name of Mario before he was known as Mr Video. Shigeru Miyamoto, originally designed Mario while developing Donkey Kong and named him Mr. video.

Original Mario

Ossan, the original Mario

The story goes that during localisation of Donkey Kong for North America, Nintendo of Americas warehouse landlord Mario Segale confronted the then-president of Nintendo America, Minoru Arakawa, demanding back rent. Following a heated argument, the Nintendo employees eventually convinced Segale he would be paid, and opted to name the character in the game Mario after him.

What youre about to see will melt your brain! Believe it or not but the animals below are actually all 3D paintings!

Singapore-based artist Keng Lye created these near life-like sculptures of animals relying on little but paint, resin and an astonishing sense of perspective. Lye slowly fills bowls, buckets, and boxes with alternating layers of acrylic paint and resin, creating aquatic animal life that looks so real it could almost pass for a photograph. Enjoy and be sure to let us know which one is your favorite by dropping a comment below!

The American Scott Summit has twenty years of experience as an industrial designer. He now uses this experience to make prosthetics a lot more pleasing on the eye and personal. As he says himself: Prosthetics can not replicate the look and feel of lost limbs but they can carry a lot of personality.  Its quite touching to see how one can use his professional skills to help others cope with their loss. At the bottom you can also see his inspiring speech at TEDx.

Thank God for graffiti! I mean what is more depressing than a grey, drab, boring looking sidewalk or concrete wall right? Graffiti itself has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. And before you go assuming that the ancient Romans only vandalized with the most brilliant bons mots, think again. Those Romans fellows, it seems, were foul-mouthed, hyper-sexual, and frequently prone to ridiculously immature humor. If youre up for a laugh then I suggest you read some of the translations that were dug up by the excavators.

Nowadays, however, graffiti is considered a crime in most countries. Fortunately, there are plenty of bold artists out there who consider the world to be their canvas and still use this art-form to express themselves, usually with a underlying social or political message. More often then not in just simple written words, but in some cases; with elaborate wall paintings that can leave you in awe. Below you will find 40 graffiti examples where this urban art-form is taken to a whole new level. They manage to turn the concrete jungle into a place of magic and wonders. I hope you enjoy them and remember that you can also add your own pictures to the list. Doing so is as easy as herding chickens. Just click the submit button on top of this site. Ok, lets not drag this out any longer, shall we? Enjoy this collection of some of the finest graffiti art gathered from around the world!

Obviously, this list would not be complete without Bansky, no doubt the worlds most famous graffiti artist, whose true identity still remains a mystery. His artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. His art is worth a lot of money but Banksy doesnt sell his street graffiti directly himself; however, art auctioneers have been known to attempt to sell his street art on location and leave the problem of its removal in the hands of the winning bidder.

Besides graffiti, Banksy also builds physical prop pieces to address social issues. Take the project below for example, called the Sirens of the Lambs. In it, a slaughterhouse truck has hit the meatpacking district in New York carrying a cargo of squealing and crying plush animals.

Tattoos can look beautiful on any chosen body part, but a hand/ wrist tattoo can look exceptionally beautiful depending on what message it portrays. Most of us were given two arms and therefore two wrists by mother nature. This can be depicted beautifully in a pair of tattoos, one on each wrist. These sorts of tattoos lend itself perfectly for symbolic and meaningful messages. For example, Regret on one wrist and Nothing on the other. For most people, tattoos are an extremely creative way to express oneself and our hands are probably the most used body parts in a day. Therefore, if there are some meaningful tattoos on your wrists, they are sure to be noted. For those of you who are thinking about getting a tattoo done we have rounded up a collection of some of the most creative wrist tattoos.

creative tattoo

wrist tattoo

We do feel the need to point out that wrist tattoos can be a bit painful. Wherever the sun and wind hits you the most will hurt the least, as the skin will be tougher there. Now wherever one portion of your body joins up with another, these areas will hurt worse. Your skin is thinner and the nerve endings are closer to the surface. The area immediately behind the hand where the wrist meets is said to be one of the most painful spots on the body to get a tattoo done. Therefore, its advised to move the tattoo at least one inch back from the hand.

If you are thinking about getting (another) tattoo then below you will find a collection of tattoo ideas that, although not to everyones taste, sure are different. In the past, a tattoo had to be as realistic as possible. Hearts, skulls and naked women were very popular with the predominantly male clientele. However, times change. Tattoos have penetrated the mainstream and are no longer public domain of bikers and salty sea dogs. The result is that the art of tattooing has come a long way and thanks to creative people, especially graphic designers and street artists, tattoos are being revived and re-imagined all the time. Below we have rounded up a collection of unique tattoo ideas that you might not have seen before. These new designs are possible due to the development of advanced tattoo machines, making much finer drawings possible. I hope you like them and dont forget to drop a comment below to let us know which one you like the most.

These sorts of tattoo designs are currently skyrocketing in popularity. The designer chooses graphics, such as geometric shapes and straight lines, but also fully anarchist experiments in the style of childrens drawings.

On many occasions our jaw has dropped the floor by certain hyper-realistic paintings. But its not often that we come across pictures that look like paintings. Below you will find 10 photos that could easily be mistaken for an acrylic or oil painting. But believe it or not, all of these extrodinary images were actually photographed.

barbaracolepaintedladies1

Painted Ladies is a beautiful shot of three women in rainbow-colored tulle by photographer Barbara Cole. The self-taught photographer not only challenges our reality, she does it all using Polaroid film! I fell in love with Polaroid film sometime late in 1987, Cole says. I had been experimenting with the Polaroid Spectra camera and Tungsten light and I loved the mood that its warm colours and creamy palette evoked. In the end, however, it proved too difficult to work within the limitations of this simple point and shoot camera and I abandoned it..After some exploration, I found someone who was able to adapt the SX-70 camera to work with my studio lighting and techniques. Then, I carefully manipulated the surface image to add dimension and introduce a painterly quality I loved.

painting

Photographer Chaluntorn Preeyasombat calls this photo Clearing Storm. Huangshan Mountain, Anhui, China. Taken from the Beginning-to-Believe Peak after morning snowfall. The lingering fog made the scene look like Chinese painting.

housesmexico

Photographer Oscar Ruiz is behind the shot, above, of a housing development in Mexico. Back in May, it was picked as the photo of the day by National Geographic. A few years ago when I was working as a helicopter pilot for a local radio station, we were required to fly around all of Mexico City chasing news and traffic. I remember flying up to the highway that connects Mexico City with the neighboring state of Puebla, and on my way back this housing complex that seemed to go on forever caught my attention. I decided to circle around to observe from up close what I later found out was the recently built San Buenaventura complex, which is located in Ixtapaluca, on the eastern outskirts of Mexico City.
The exceptional afternoon sun reflecting those thousands of recently painted small homes just looked so beautiful, and the lower I flew the better the angle, so I just got out my camera, opened the sliding window on my Bell helicopter, and snapped a couple of shots.

painting30

This photo, taken in Namibia, shows a dune tinted orange by the morning sun admist camel thorn trees. Photographer Frans Lanting explains his shot, It was made at dawn when the warm light of the morning sun was illuminating a huge red sand dune dotted with white grasses while the white floor of the clay pan was still in shade. It looks blue because it reflects the color of the sky above. The perfect moment came when the sun reached all the way down to the bottom of the sand dune just before it reached the desert floor. I used a long telephoto lens and stopped it all the way down to compress the perspective.

andreermolaevphoto11

Photographer Andre Ermolaev is behind this gorgeous aerial shot of Icelands volcanic rivers. Iceland is a wonderful country; I would even say that it is a true paradise for all the photo shooting-lovers. But what has become a real discovery for me is the birds eye view of the rivers flowing along the black volcanic sand. It is an inexpressible combination of colors, lines, and patterns. The photo represents the mouth of the river falling into the ocean. A little bit upstream there is a yellow-colored brook flowing into the river, but yellow currents fail to mix with the main water flow. One can estimate the scale judging by the car tracks that are clearly seen on the black sand. This is just a river, just a volcano, just our planet.

dunes

James and Kelly Stone took this gorgeous shot of dunes dotted with trees at Lassen Volcanic National Park. Painted Dunes can be seen atop Cinder Cone at Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. The colors are a result of volcanic activity. The beauty is breathtaking. The vision, as you can see, is like an oil painting. Gods tapestry on Earth.

California-based photographer David Orias is behind a series of wave photographs that look remarkably like oil paintings. Orias uses long exposures and a telephoto lens to capture these stunning shots. He states, "Southern California has its fire season and sometimes this creates conditions of eerie orange light in the morning as the sunlight is filtered and scattered by smoke particles. This creates unusual and to some viewers unrealistic colors. I take the baseline colors and work with them to create a fine art appeal."

michaelbrandt

Photographer Michael Brandt captured these painterly rolling hills at the Palouse Valley, Washington, USA. This particular photo is looking towards Tekoa Mountain from Steptoe Butte. The rainbow picture was taken at a place called Steptoe Butte its an amazing geographical landmark right in the heart of the Palouse. It is a large butte that offers outstanding panoramic views of the very unique rolling hill landscape known as the Palouse, that gives photo fans endless compositions and ever changing landscape throughout the seasons. From late April through to early September photographers from around the world make a trek individually or through photo tours to visit this unique region.

paint

Doesnt this man look like hes rowing in a lake full of paint? This is actually a real photograph of a heavily polluted lake in Anhui province, Taiwan. The green substance on the top of the water is algae. The photograph, by Jianan Yu, is of Chaohu Lake, one of eight rivers and lakes in China that the country plans to treat under ta $7.4 billion construction plan.

trees

Graphic designer Denis Collette has a series called My Waterbox, a collection of images that show reflections in a river and lake near his countryside cottage. He said, I like the creativity of the water and like to be surprised. I have taken thousands of photos of reflections and they are all unique. The reflections are generally of trees, wild flowers, weeds, wild vegetation, the sky and the clouds. But the photo changes depending on the wind, the light, the stream, the level of the river and sometimes the depth of the river. It always fascinates me. The water ripples make them look like oil paintings by Van Gogh, Turner, Riopelle or Monet.

Sleeve tattoos are slowly climbing the ladder as one of the most popular forms of tattoo art. A Sleeve tattoo refers to a tattoo done on the arms or legs, which covers the entire area similar to a sleeve of a shirt. Sleeve tattoos are usually an assembly of small and large designs and are put together with backgrounds designs like stars, flowers, water or fire. Its not uncommon that they take several ink sessions and years before they are completed. The feeling that gives a person who has this kind of tattoo can only be described as powerful and awesome. It has been known that people who actually do not have that kind of confidence try to get it by getting such a tattoo done.

Getting such tattoos have known to have transferred timid pussycats into roaring tigers. However, one should think carefully before they pick a design that fits them. Some people do have the common sense to do so while others will probably spend the rest of their lives with a bitter reminder never to fall asleep in a tattoo parlor ever again. Below we have rounded-up the best and the worst examples of sleeve tattoos. Enjoy and remember you are free to share your own tattoos as well by uploading them in the upload section.

Tattoos once part of a sub-culture populated by men and women with serious macho credentials has become so mainstream that even my grandmother has one now (which I will not post pictures off for obvious reasons). A big reason is probably the media and how more and more celebrities are starting to look like they are key members of the Midnight Boys Bike Club. When it comes to celebrity tattoos Angelina Jolie might have the most photographed tattoos of them all, but check out these other celebrity tattoos for a few star shocks and surprises!

Scarlet Johanssons Tattoos

"Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations" Costume Institute Gala

When we first noticed the tattoo on Scarlet Johanssons arm, we thought it was kinda cute how Scarlett still gets a sticker after a doctors visit. Unfortunately, its actually a real tattoo that just happens to look like something youd find in a 6-year-olds birthday party goodie bag.

Hayden Panettieres tattoo

celebrity tattoos

The immortal cheerleader from the series Heroes also has a tattoo, which is supposed to read vivere senza rimpianti, Italian for live without regrets. Unfortunately, its got an extra letter in it. How ironic is that? Getting tattoos in foreign languages that make you look sophisticated is cool and all, but at least check the spelling, GEEZ

Rihannas Tattoos

rihanna tattoos 003

In 2007, Rihanna got a Sanskrit prayer inked going down her hip. The tattoo was supposed to translate to forgiveness, honesty, suppression and control, a quote from the Sanatana Dharma. Unfortunately, the tattoo was misspelled and translated to long suffering, truthfulness, self-restraint, inward calm, fear and fearlessness instead, which seems like a  pretty serious translation error. I guess its best not to rely on Google translate for these sort of permanent things.

Shakespeare said 'We will all laugh at gilded butterflies' but what did this mean? It means you must laugh at something that is by nature beautiful but has been 'beautified' in order to be something that it is not. In its exaggerated beautification it destroys (by being weighed down - gilded) the essence of what it was intended to be (its true colors and true self) and intended to do (fly).

Poor Britney is also a repeat tattoo mistake offender. First she got a tattoo of a Chinese symbol on her hip that was supposed to say mysterious. Sadly, it did not say mysterious at all Guess what it did say? Strange. It didnt end there though. Next she had God tattooed in Hebrew on her neck. BUT IT WAS MISSPELLED. Its a good thing that Gods love is unconditional else she would have been struck down by lighting instantly!

Ok, we seen plenty of tattoo fails but the title for worst tattoo mistake has to be Mike Tysons FACE tattoo. Poor Mike. He bit a dudes ear off in a boxing match and all went downhill from there. Lil Waynes tattoos

One of the most popular musician in the world, for better or worse, is Lil Wayne. The grammy award winning rapper is one of the only artists that can still move millions of units, and he does so by apparently saying the first thing thats on his mind when a microphone is in front of him. He also has a ton of tattoos. Honestly, there is no point trying to count them all. Just like its utterly futile to try and figure out what they mean. If youre familiar with his lyrics then you should know: the man is either an incomprehensible genius or just batshit crazy.

How to make your own Coffee Art

This delicious art form does require high quality equipment, ingredients and a keen attention to detail. However, that doesnt mean you cant become a Barista yourself! Below you will find a tutorial on how you can create your own latte art. This is certainly no easy task and it requires practise before you master the finer latte art techniques. However by learning the basics you can quickly move to more complicated shapes and show of your creative side.

Latte Art Pouring Technique

To pour a latte art figure, the structure of the milk is very important. shows the structure of the milk is important. After frothing the milk the foam has to be fluid enough to pour nicely. However the foam has to remain solid enough, to not dissolve as you pour it into the espresso.

The Milk Jug

For pouring Latte Art its best to work with different sizes of milk jugs. By pouring from one jug to another, you can keep the milk smoothly. This way you are able to create more detailed shapes in your cappuccino. The nozzle of the jug should be a little pointy and round, effectively making it your brush for creating your delicious masterpiece. Now follow these techniques to get a feeling for it.

[checklist]

  • Start high and pour gently
  • Never interrupt the flow
  • Tilt the can to make speed

[/checklist]

Also consider the distribution of the foam in the can: the thick foam should be on top, medium underneath that and on the bottom the thinnest foam. Remember, to become a proper Bartista you will have to learn by practice, practice and more practice. But to help you on your way, be sure to check out the video tutorial below from master Barista, William Gross.
