Cheryl Cole's tattoo history: From her old ink to new designs

Cheryl Cole's tattoo transformation

Since finding fame with Girls Aloud when they won Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, Chezza has been open about her love of skin ink.

The singer already had a butterfly tattoo on her lower back by the time she'd joined the band and showed it off in sexy low-cut trousers teamed with a cheeky thong.

Over time Cheryl unveiled more inkings, including a barbed wire, musical note and rose combo around her right thigh.

The pretty star's tribal print design on the outer side of her hand became noticeable on stage when she was holding a microphone.

During a holiday with footballer beau Ashley Cole in 2005, Chezza exposed a tattoo on her left bum cheek whilst wearing a revealing bikini.

The following year Cheryl married Ashley and had Mrs C inked on the back of her neck, a design she kept after the couple's 2010 divorce.

In 2011 the X Factor judge showed she'd had a new outline added to her old butterfly tattoo and admitted she was tempted to get her whole back covered.

Cheryl then flaunted an etching on her upper thigh going up to her bottom in the video for her 2012 hit Call My Name.

But the Geordie's biggest tattoo transformation came in 2013, when she unveiled two large red roses on her back during Girls Aloud's reunion tour.

Later in the year her tattooist Nikko Hurtado revealed that Cheryl had actually had her whole lower back and bum covered in the dramatic floral design.

Cheryl went through some gruelling inking sessions to have the artwork completed, with Nikko admitting that she sat in the chair for 50 hours in total spread across several appointments.

The singer adores her giant etching, despite getting some backlash over it - what will she do next?
