Running a marathon is a big achievement, and getting a tattoo to commemorate it is one way to show off your achievement. There are many different ways that you can remember this achievement and show off your personal style. Consider things like where you want to get the tattoo, how visible you want it to be and if you want it in color.

  1. Numbers

    • Get the numbers "26.2" tattooed on you to represent the 26.2 miles your ran. This can be done small as a discreet tattoo or it can be incorporated into another design, like flower stems, if you want it to blend with other tattoos. You also can get the 26.2 tattooed and colored like a race car with flames coming out from behind it. There are many different options with this choice because of the array of fonts and colors a person can choose from.

    Causes

    • Many people run marathons for a certain cause, so you can get this as a tattoo. Not only will this show your devotion to helping the cause, but it will show off your achievement. For example, if you ran for breast cancer--maybe because you are a survivor or for a family member--then tattoo the pink ribbon symbol. You can even put "26.2" and the date you ran the marathon inside the ribbon.

    Mantras

    • If you have a specific saying or mantra that helps you run, tattoo this as your ultimate running challenge and achievement. Whatever it may be that keeps you going, like “finish it” or “stay the course,” it will inspire and remind you of your run every time you see it. You can accompany this with the date of the race or a "26.2" so your tattoo is even more specific.

    Symbols

    • You can get a symbol tattoo of something that reminds you of running. This can be something as simple as the winged foot in the track-and-field symbol or as ornate as a pair of running shoes. You can also get something a little humorous, like a caveman-esqe drawing of people running a race. The symbol may not mean the same thing to others that it will to you, but the fact that it is meaningful to you is what is important.
