The tattoo on your shoulder may be a work of art, yet you might not want it to show on your wedding day. Or perhaps you are self-conscious about a scar. There are many occasions when a person might prefer to cover a tattoo, scar or burn. Removing these marks from the skin can be costly. Wearing clothes that cover the spot is not always possible. Effective products are available on today's market that are designed to camouflage tattoos, scars and burns.

Things You'll Need

  • Makeup brush

  • Skin moisturizer

  • Concealer

  • Translucent powder

  • Makeup sealant

Choose a concealer designed to cover marks on the skin---one that can be used on any part of the body. If you're covering a scar, moisturize the area first. Coverage products come in liquid, stick and cream, but cream is typically recommended due to its thicker texture. Pick a color with a realistic tone that matches your natural skin color.

Warm the cream, if it is very thick. You can do this by placing a dab into the palm of your hand and swirling it with your finger. A small amount will go a long way. You can always add more if necessary.

    • 3

Stipple and pat the cream over the tattoo, scar or burn using your fingers or a flat, short-bristled makeup brush. Blend the product with small, quick strokes that extend slightly outward from the scar. Apply light coverage and layer until the mark is no longer visible. Allow the cream to dry for ten minutes.

Set the cream with a translucent powder using a makeup brush to apply small, smooth strokes. This will help keep it from rubbing off of the skin. Don't brush on the powder; pat it just as you did with the cream. Allow the powder to set for about 5 minutes.

Seal the products so that they will last longer. You can spray the area of your skin that's covered with a fine mist of hair spray. Makeup sealer can also be applied. Allow this final coat to dry for a few minutes.
